Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, is a day of fun for young and old! It is a day to think about those we love and celebrate the friendship and kindness. One of my favorite winter vacation when the kids were younger I liked all the fuss of the parties at school, Scouts and Sunday School. Was a break with the stagnation of winter! I loved going to the store to let each choose their own Valentine's Day. At that time "printables team" were not vocabulary, if I can not believe it! We bought the box of old fashion cards that smashed into punch lines. They loved to choose their own subjects, either in the Ninja Turtles, Super Heroes, Care Bears and Cabbage Patch Kids. Yes, I am definitely dating myself as I think of those years! Then we would take the boxes and each wrap and decorate their own individual mailboxes! As Valentines began arriving from relatives in the box go until Valentine's Day!

In our house, always add a component to a day. We bake and deliver homemade cookies to the elderly neighbors. We collect coins in a large decorated Valentine's Day that had decorated jar just after Christmas and enjoy watching grow. Valentine's Day we have coins and decide where to donate money. A year was the local volunteer fire department as my son thought since red trucks and Santa always visited the city's firefighters each year, which should receive the gift. We have gifts for all the grandparents who still around Grandma and Grandpa's house! We have tried to focus on the ideas of children love and attention, as well as fun to receive.

Over the years we have done different things to hold the current day, but his favorite of all time was the "Sweet Treat" special. From the moment he got up, you could eat your meal in the order they wanted. I put the food on the table of main course and desserts that I could eat in the order they wanted! Probably the absolute worst idea in history and I will most likely to be scolded by nutritionists and pediatricians alike, but are now adults and no worse for wear and remains one of the memories of Valentine's Day favorite!

As I got older, my husband and I began to have Valentine parties for adults. Sometimes it was out to dinner with friends then back to our house for dessert. Other times it was a cocktail or a meeting desserts and beverages. Always cap the night with a fun game and I really think that was the highlight of the festival.
