If you have ever fallen, you know how this can be frightening and many thoughts run through your mind. "Did I break my hip?" I had a stroke brain? Will I be able to walk again? Am I still going to be able to live independently? What now? "

All these issues are important and need consideration, and unfortunately, sometimes a fall can leave someone totally helpless. Many times, however, knowledge and preparation can be equipped with the tools to get yourself up off the floor after a fall or ask for help, even if you can not move. This article will teach you what to do when you fall and what you can do now to help yourself if you ever should fall in the future.

If you feel that starting to fall:

  • Try to land or on the buttocks or on your side.
  • Remain calm and assess your situation.

If you can not communicate with the phone, not have an alarm system mobile, and are alone, it must be pursued up from the floor as soon as possible:

  • If happens to fall on his back, gently bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor, then twist your body to one side, preferably to the furniture, stretching his arms and looking in the direction of their shift.
  • Once you're on her side, is in a better position to roll on his stomach, gets up on his knees and crawl to the nearest stable piece of furniture.
  • You can use a sturdy chair or sofa to pull you same by facing squarely, so that the knee of your stronger leg, leaving the other knee, placing both hands on the seat of the chair and pushing down with your forearms.
  • Once rises sufficiently, carefully turn the body to sit in the chair or sofa.

Hopefully, once you have rested you will be able to call family, a friend or an emergency contact to help you. If you are injured and can not reach the phone, is still in a better position being in a chair lying on hard ground.

Here are 4 things you can do now to help yourself if any I should fall in the future:

  1. Be sure you have a cellular phone or a cell phone charged at your fingertips at all times.
  2. Consider obtaining a mobile security alarm, as a pendant or bracelet to test water used at all times and can call for help at the touch a button.
  3. Arrange for check-in with a relative or a professional monitoring service at the same time each day. If you miss a call, they know that something is wrong. Some local senior centers and hospitals offer this service free or for a nominal fee. In addition, several companies will call once or twice a day to check on you and can give you medication or treatment reminders.
  4. While your doctor, start a program of strengthening exercises and balance. A regular walking program, tai chi, aerobics and water are good choices. Or ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist if you need a more personalized. Even 15 minutes a day can make a big difference. If you fall, you will be better equipped to handle the situation.

Many people who fall remain in soil for long periods and develop serious, often life-threatening complications such as severe skin breakdown, dehydration and infections. Hopefully you will be between 2 of 3 people older than this year. But, just in case, I hope you are well prepared and know what to do.
