air disc mass m1 is attached to a rope and allowed to rotate in a circle of radius R on a horizontal table without friction. other end of the chain passes through a hole in the center of the table and a counterweight of mass m2 is attached to it. The suspended object remains in equilibrium, while the disk rotates on the table. What is (a) the tension of the string, (b) the radial force acting on the disk? (c) the speed of the disk?

(a), because suspended object remains in equilibrium, the tension is m2 * g, (b) the radial force acting on the disc is the centripetal force m2 * g, (c) centripetal force, therefore m2 * g = m1 * v ^ 2 / R, hence v = sqrt (m2 * g * R/m1);
