/How to soften the bones of animals for art project.?

I'm wanting to turn some small animal bones I bought at an antique store small elements to create some type of accounts. Does anyone know how I could soften the bones so they are flexible? I have heard that vinegar will do, but I've also heard that vinegar dissolves the bone, so I am confused with how to do this. Thanks!

The first response is good, but I will add that both of the things you say are true – the bone is dissolved in weak acids, which is what is vinegar (acetic acid), but soften the bone is the process of breaking the hard parts in the same way the softer parts are flexed, but still hold their shape. Just to check it out along the road. However, just outside my knowledge is a question: What flexibility of bones require relatively cool and it is the cartilage like material that is in them and the old bones that the only things left thin dissolves. You may have to try other less useful for small to see old bones.
